Harmony Youth Choir was formed just over six years ago to cater for those children who wished to perform to the highest standards and to give them the opportunity to meet with like-minded young people. Since its formation, Harmony has established itself as one of the leading young choir in the north.
The Choir mainly performs at charity events such as concerts for the children of Chernobyl and various events organised by the local Rotary Club, the most recent of which was held in Whitley Bay Playhouse in May. We also perform at the Mouth of the Tyne festival in July.
Members of Harmony are aged from 9 to 18 years old. There are 2 groups for various age groups and abilities.
The 2 choirs meet every Thursday at St Andrew's Church, Monkseaton. The choirs are directed by Mr Reg. Chapple who arranges most of the choir's music. He is ably assisted by three lady parents, who attend each rehearsal and performance. The children pay £1 per session to cover the hire of the room. Harmony polo-shirts are purchased by the choir member.
Our aim's for the future include raising the already high musical standards of the group and performing regularly in the local area.
